Word of the Day: Kwangmyongsong

Welcome back to “Word of the Day!” If I happened to lure you into this post with the title, you’re probably thinking, “What the hell is this kwang my song business about?” I spontaneously made the decision to occasionally go with a word that isn’t English. It seems like doing that goes nicely with my whole “we should be global citizens” philosophy.

Today’s word is Kwangmyongsong which means “bright star” in Korean. As it turns out, it is the name of the satellite series that the North Koreans tried to put into orbit just yesterday.

Interestingly enough, it’s also what the people of North Korea would call the Dear Leader and Father General Kim Jong-Il. If you’ve had a long talk with me you know I’m big on the Dear Leader, mostly because I find that whole country absolutely fascinating.

Have a good day everyone. Make sure to call someone kwangmyongsong today. They might not know what the hell it means, but you can claim you’ve made their day anyway.

Word of the Day: Scintillating

It’s Friday. April 13th (queue scary Friday the 13th music) and the word of the day is scintillating. I tweeted earlier today using the word scintillating and decided to myself that it would make a great Word of the Day, mostly because I think it’s cool to say over and over again.

scin·til·lat·ing

[sin-tl-ey-ting]  Show IPA

adjective
1. animated; vivacious; effervescent: a scintillating personality.
2. witty; brilliantly clever: a scintillating conversationalist; a playfull of scintillating dialogue.
So go do something in a scintillating fashion today. Thanks to the bros over at Dictionary.com for the excellent definition.

Word of the Day

Well hello there, single person that reads this. If you who follow me on twitter you’ll occasionally see me post a “Word of the Day.” I typically pick a word to reflect my mood at that time. I’ve decided I’ll try to turn that into a regular little thing to post on here so I can catalog all of the words and blah blah blah.

Today’s word is “Inspiration”
Inspiration was chosen for the fact that this post is giving me a whole bunch of new ideas for posts. Hopefully I can keep up with posting this on a regular basis.

Let me know if there is anything to add to this.

Return Of The King

Why hello there. How have you been? We haven’t talked in a while, huh? So… how ya been?

Well now that we’re past the awkward reintroduction, let’s get down to business. It’s been quite a while since I posted something here, hasn’t it? After dusting off the back end of the site and cleaning up a million bot comments, I’m ready to start posting stuff again.

If you followed this site at all, you’re probably used to seeing soccer stuff. I’ve moved all of my soccer rantings and ravings over to Twitter and the Union Dues, so look there for soccer stuff. Here I’ll be posting random thoughts.

I’ve heard it’s good to write a little bit each day. I’ve got an idea or two for stuff I’d like to write on a daily or weekly basis, so I might start doing that. Sorry to have been gone so long, I’m sure you missed me, Internet.

The Morning DOOP: Toronto Edition

Well, its finally arrived. Our final DOOP of the regular season at PPL Park. The Union are currently leading the East with a two point lead over Kansas City. We have two games in the regular season, and to be quite honest, the Union surprised me by being in first right now. I assumed that theyd be tied for second with Columbus after a loss to Seattle. Alas, they pleasantly surprised me with that great win! So with a win, the Union will put the lockdown on the playoffs. Well be in and able to go easy against NJPC, although I believe that we should pound them into the ground with all of our available strength.

Before we get to the NJPC game, lets focus on the present, Toronto. As far as Canadian teams go in this league, they suck. Granted, there are only two of them, but thats not important. Toronto is currently sitting in eighth place in the East, 16th overall, with a stunningly bad 31 points. They have an overall record of 6-13-13, with an away record of 1-9-6. Toronto has literally nothing other than pride to play for in this game, and if you remember back to when we played them in Toronto, you know that we took that pride when we beat them 6-2. According to announcers everywhere, Toronto has improved since then. I, on the other hand, am not so convinced. Toronto had earned 11 points before being humiliated by the U at home. Since that time, about four months, they have only earned 20 points. That 20-point stretch was twice the time span between the beginning of the season and when they played the Union. Toronto has actually lost a little bit of steam if you look at the numbers. That being said, I think we can expect three points.

So, what does everyone want from this game other than three points? I personally would like to see the return of Roger Torres to the starting lineup. Rogers replacement, Adu, totally sucked last game except for his two seconds of fame when he scored that goal which was totally Gabe Farfans doing. In my mind, if you looks at the a title=Adu versus Torres href=http://theuniondues.com/2011/10/02/adu-versus-torres/ target=_blankRoger vs. Adu/a argument, Roger wins by a longshot. But well leave that debate for the other article. Id like to see someone other than Paunovic in. The last few games, the Serbian hasnt been performing well and seems to ave Le Toux syndrome, because I dont remember the last time he scored. Take out the Serbian and lets bring in Danny Mwanga. All of the Young Guns have been playing well recently, so we need to give him a go again.

New paragraph for the next two topics, because they are big! First, for my own personal satisfaction, we need to end the Right Foot Only experiment. By that I mean Justin Mapp. I really hope he doesnt get protected this off season, because I would love to stop having fits of rag every time he touches the ball. He and Miglioranzi should never touch the pitch again. Next issue: Mondragon or MacMath? MacMath has been hot recently, but Mondy is the key to our the a title=The BACKLINE Shirt OUT NOW href=http://theuniondues.com/2011/10/13/the-backline-shirt-out-now/ target=_blankBack Line/a (That link is a shameless T-shirt plug, check it out!) and he is the team captain. Personally, Id like to put Zac in. Hes the clubs future and he has shown that he is ready to play. Id like to hear from readers on this one, healthy debates are always good.

My final prediction for this game is a 3-0 Union win. With the crowd being a huge factor for the U, theyll be energized and ready for a big win. Comment the article up and let me know what you think!

Keep DOOPing, my friends. As always, tweet me with your opinions and we can talk soccer, Im always up for it!
